ChatGPT Ads feed
Plans: Starter ✗ · Growth ✓ · Pro ✓ · Agency ✓ (the same plans as the ChatGPT product feed)
ChatGPT can show ads for products, separately from the products it shows on its own. OpenAI runs Ads with its own product feed and gives you a separate SFTP account for it: a second destination, next to the one you use for the ChatGPT product feed.
Clione sends the Ads feed the same way as the product feed — the same enriched catalogue, the same file format, once a day — with one difference: only the products you choose to advertise go in it.
Nothing is advertised until you say so
Every category (BigCommerce) or collection (Shopify) starts off, and so does every product. You decide what goes in:
- Turn on a category or collection and every product in it goes in the Ads feed.
- Set a single product from its page to Always in or Always out. A product's own setting always beats its categories, in both directions: a product set to Always out stays out even if its category is on.
- Leave a product on Follow its categories (the default) and it goes in if any of its categories or collections is on.
Content pages are never in the Ads feed: it lists things a shopper can buy.
If nothing is eligible, nothing is uploaded — Clione does not even connect to the Ads account.
What you do
- Ask OpenAI for the store's Ads SFTP details (they are not the same as the product feed's).
- In Clione, pick the store and open Store Settings → Integrations → ChatGPT Ads feed. Paste the host, port, username, the password or private key, and the folder OpenAI told you to use (if any).
- Recommended: paste the server's host key fingerprint (
SHA256:…). If you leave it empty, Test connection shows you the one the server presented, so you can check it with OpenAI and pin it. - Click Save, then Test connection. Green means Clione could log in and list the folder.
- In the same card, turn on the categories or collections you want to advertise. To include or exclude a single product, open the product: the ChatGPT Ads box on its first tab has the setting.
From then on Clione uploads the store's Ads feed once a day, right after the product feed. The card shows when the last upload happened and whether it worked.
What Clione sends
- One file per store (
clione-ads-products-…), always with the same name, replaced on every upload. - The same rows as the ChatGPT product feed for the products you chose, each marked as eligible for Ads. There is no second set of descriptions to maintain.
- A product you take out of the Ads feed (or that leaves your catalogue) is sent for 14 more days marked as not eligible for Ads, so OpenAI stops advertising it straight away; after that it is left out. This does not touch the product feed.
- Parquet by default; JSON Lines (gzip) is available on the same card.
If an upload fails
The card shows the error and the last upload stays as it was. Clione does not keep retrying: the next attempt is the next day's run. Our team is alerted too, so a failure that repeats does not go unnoticed. The most common causes are a changed password or key, or a server fingerprint that no longer matches.
Your credentials
Stored encrypted, used only for this store's Ads feed, and never shown again after you save them: the card only says that a password or key is set. Remove deletes them; the Ads uploads stop, and the product feed and your other stores are not affected.
